כַּמוּת

“The new world that emerges from the encounter between object and material invites a closer look. It creates a new perspective - for the viewer and for me. Something in this encounter alters the familiar sense of scale, as though I become a tiny ant in a world built for human-sized people.”

Over the years, Noa Spector has focused on monumental installations. Enormous bodies of polyester fibre and canvas leave a powerful impression on the viewer. Her shift from the monumental to the miniature marks a change in perception.

Her exploration of materials brings polyester fibre to the foreground for the first time. Once hidden as stuffing within her earlier works, supporting the canvas and paint, the material now stands white, exposed, utterly bare - expressing another layer falling away from the ego and a deeper closeness to the Self.

The screws and miniature mechanisms evoke joints and hinges in the work’s skeleton, which stands in the light for the first time. Polyester fibre, white as snow, in place of bold brushstrokes. The inside is out, and the outside - irrelevant.
